When the Civil War ended black men left in large numbers to find a way to make a living in the Old West. They were hard working, industrious men who were determined to carve out a life for themselves on the wild, roaming plains out West. Tricia Martineau Wagner has a B.A. in Elementary Education and attended the University of Toledo and Miami University, Ohio. She taught elementary school and was a reading specialist for twelve years. She is member of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators and the Evangelical Press Association.
