I began to\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ewrite the record, the daily events and experiences of Kittev and the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esurrounding cities and towns, according to the authentic reports we\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ereceived from those places.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOne of the main reasons that moved me to record all these bloody\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eevents was my then naïve belief that the great democratic world had\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eno idea of what was happening, because if they did know what the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eGermans were doing, they would surely employ all means to stop\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe horrible destruction-work of the Nazis, their murderous actions\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eagainst the innocent Jews. All Polish Jews shared this belief, as did the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eJews of our city, Kittev.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSince nobody believed that any Jew could be saved from the bloody\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003etalons of the Nazi evil beast and the Ukrainian murderers, that he\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emight be able, after the war, to appear as a living witness and accuse\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe mass-murderers before the world tribunal, I resolved to make my\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emodest contribution to the history of the German murder-actions\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethat they should not be forgotten.
