He was from Columbia, going to Spain, in the year 1545, and was shipwrecked on the coast of Florida keys and was returned to Spain twenty years later. When the King found out about his ability to speak several dialects of the Calusa Indians, he was commanded by King Don Felipe to return with Pedro Menendez in the Year 1565 to explore Florida, as a guide looking for whatever treasure could be found.
