Her father William, who she had not seen in years was in Boston struggling to support her and Mamma. Where would Mercedee go? Would she be able to continue in school? And how will she face the troubles ahead? With little money and outgrowing her clothes, she embarked on a journey searching for solace and independence in Victorian Nova Scotia.
