My dad is not a superhero is a female empowerment story that highlights the father-daughter relationship. The overall tension is, "IS my dad a superhero?" The kid is wondering just what her dad's abilities are, because they're clearly way-way beyond hers.
Kids wonder just how capable their parents are, and it's a tough, perhaps disappointing lesson learning that your parents are just people, too. Way-more-capable people than a kid, yeah, but not omnipotent. It's an important lesson. Kids can learn to appreciate their parents better by understanding their parents have the same needs they do -- food, water, potties, sleep, fun, etc. And that it's not just simple to make a sandwich or whatever, it takes time, effort, skill, and -- most definitely -- love.
